My Son, Elvis Is Dead

“Just after 2:00 p.m., Central Standard Time, on Tuesday, August 16, 1977 Ginger Alden found Elvis, face down and obviously unconscious, on the floor of the master bathroom at Graceland. Wearing only a blue top and yellow pajama bottoms, Elvis was found crouched over with his face dark and bloated. At approximately 3:30pm Elvis Presley was pronounced dead after an extremely frantic ambulance ride to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. At the hospital, a throng of highly trained medical specialists battled to save his life but to no avail. The official medical verdict was death by heart failure. Officials from Baptist Memorial Hospital reached Vernon Presley by telephone to tell him that his son was dead. Half an hour later, on the famous steps of Graceland, a very grief stricken Vernon Presley announced to the world: ‘My son, Elvis is dead…’ Vernon Presley died two years later from a broken heart.”

Happy Birthday Elvis!

Elvis, born in Tupelo, Mississippi, on January 8, 1935, would have been 73 years old today had he not died an untimely death in his Graceland mansion bathroom on August 16, 1977. Elvis Presley fans from all over the world are in Memphis to celebrate the King’s birthday today.

Today’s grand festivities kick off with the cutting of a”super-sized” birthday cake with sprinkles and all the best frosting at Graceland
and the annual proclamation of Elvis Presley Day by Memphis and Shelby
County officials. There will also be a Gospel Tribute and a special
ceremony at Graceland, with fans singing “Happy Birthday” to the
singer. In addition, today’s Memphis Grizzlies NBA basketball game,
in which the team will host the Los Angeles Lakers, will feature
Elvis-themed music, performances, and prizes.

An invitation-only Elvis Fan Club President’s Event will be held tonight at Fogelmen Executive Conference Center at the University of Memphis. And a “Bears on Tour” Scavenger Hunt at Graceland will be open to the public, featuring special exhibits from the Graceland archives. Local officials are reporting a shortage of candles and chocolate in the metro Memphis area. Most donut shops are having trouble meeting the demand.

OnLine Elvis Shrine

Just installed at is the Official OnLine Elvis Shrine.

The candles will always burn brightly at the Shrine and as a faithful fan you can always be assured of that. The GPS coordinates are inscribed upon the Shrine — just tell your car and be taken directly to the Shrine! Just think of Elvis as your guide and chauffeur (with really cool hair).

Thank you! Thank you very much!
