Form Follows Function?

Form follows function is a principle of design often associated with modern architecture and modern industrial design of the 20th century.

This design principle states that the shape of a building or object should be primarily based upon its intended function or purpose.

But, as one can see, there is an exception to every rule. Sometimes design just exists for its own sake while limiting, disguising or altogether eliminating its real function or purpose.
