The word jazz has proved to be very difficult to define, since it encompasses such a wide range of music spanning a period of over 100 years. Attempts have been made to define jazz from the perspective of other musical traditions, such as European music history or African music. This image is an attempt to define or visualize jazz from a visual arts perspective.

Not To Scale

Scale – the ratio of the length in a drawing to the length of the real thing. Sometimes the role of the artist is not to depict what is real but to use scale as a mode of articulation in the generation of conceptual or theoretical explorations. This condition is referred to as “not to scale.”

The Royal Works

Red is the color at the longer-wavelengths end of the spectrum of visible light next to orange, at the opposite end from violet. It has historically been associated with sacrifice, danger and courage. Sometimes, it’s just fun to look at and fun to use.
