Package In Transit …

It all began on a quiet Thursday morning. My phone buzzed with that life-altering notification: Status Update: Your Leica Camera and Lens – In Transit. Estimated Delivery: Monday, November 10th.

There it was. The sacred phrase: In Transit. A combination of words designed solely to torment the human soul. And mind you, the package only became “in transit” after a 36 hour period of no package scans or updates to its status.

I refreshed the tracking page.

Refresh.

Refresh.

Refresh.

Nothing.

I imagined my Leica camera and lens riding in the back of a delivery truck like royalty, sipping a latte, waving through the cardboard window at the poor mortals left waiting. Perhaps it had requested a scenic route. Maybe the package was sightseeing – probably at Graceland since Memphis was its last known location.

By evening, I began bargaining with the tracking gods. “If you let the package arrive early, I promise I will never complain about shipping fees again!”

Then I checked the tracking once more.

In Transit!

I swear I heard the package laughing.

Tomorrow can’t come fast enough. But for tonight, I’ll be staring out the window like a Victorian poet, whispering to the darkness, “Soon, we will be together, my Leica … soon.”
