Herb Tarlek’s Advice On Women

From the popular sitcom of the late 1970s, WKRP In Cincinnati, some long lost advice on the opposite sex from Herbert R. Tarlek Jr., master salesman and notorious womanizer. This “Professional Advice On Women” was glibly delivered by Herb Tarlek to Andy Travis and Dr. Johnny Fever after the two beg Herb to share his advice on women with them.

This priceless scene can be found in Episode 23 (For Love or Money, Part 1) that appeared in WKRP’s second season which aired on September 17, 1979. This is the episode when Johnny forgets about his date with Bailey when he gets a call from Buffy, his old girlfriend from California. He borrows Jennifer’s apartment to impress Buffy; however, that plan ends when she tells him she’s suing him for palimony.

Here is Herb Tarlek’s advice on women as explained to Andy Travis and Dr. Johnny Fever:

“First, get yourself a plan. What’s the one thing thing all plans scream out for? An objective, it’s the one thing all plans have to have – an objective.”

“You take a woman to a nice place. N–I–C–E. Now that says “I like you, you’re important to me and by bringing you here you know I like nice things and that I have very high standards and one of them is you.”

“You joke, you kid around and you hope that the rare connection will happen  when the both of you instinctively know that the same river that flows past her door flows past yours.”

“It’s not a sexual thing actually – but it is romantic. With all the excitement and human fun that goes with it.”

“But, the important thing is not just letting a woman know you want her but letting her know she can have you. A very non-threatening totally natural loving way.”
