The Mai Tai is a venerable alcoholic cocktail based on rum, Curaçao liqueur and lime juice. This drink is most popularly associated with Tiki culture and Polynesian-style settings.

This very tasty cocktail was purportedly invented in 1944 at the famous Trader Vic’s in  Oakland, California. Trader Vic’s rival, Don the Beachcomber, claimed to have created it in 1933 at his bar named for himself. Don the Beachcomber’s recipe is more complex than Trader Vic’s and tastes quite different.
