The Many Faces Of Joe E. Brown
Joseph Evans Brown (1891 – 1973) was an American actor and comedian. Joe E. Brown is best remembered for his extremely pleasant and unassuming screen persona. He had exceptional comic timing, and a marvelous plastic face with a very huge smile.
Joe E. Brown joined the circus when he was nine years old where he became a tumbler in the circus. He later ventured into the vaudeville circuit and even became a professional baseball player. Eventually Joe E. Brown ended up on Broadway where he transformed himself into a very fine comedian.
Broadway and his talent for comedy saw Joe E. Brown joining Warner Brothers as a comedy film actor. Joe E. Brown ended up making over 68 films in his career. After his run with Warner Brothers was over, Joe E. Brown signed with the filmmaker David L. Loew to make more movies.
Brown would later call this move his biggest professional mistake inasmuch as the films for Loew didn’t do as well as his films with Warner Brothers. This was due to the obviously lower production values of Loew’s films. His films for Warner Brothers were lavish productions filmed in color with big budgets. He died in 1973 and is buried at Forest Lawn (Glendale), in Glendale, California.
