Fine Art Photography: Safety Matches
Fine Art Photography: Safety Matches
Safety matches are small devices made from either cardboard or wood that is used to make fire safely.
Matches are rarely sold singularly; they are sold in multiples, packaged in either match boxes or in matchbooks.
The only thing that truly makes matches safe is to not strike them at all. In this series of images, please note that none of the matches were struck or are burning in these pictures.
The fire is an illusion taking full advantage of setting, lighting and camera set-up with an idea in mind.
Specifically, the camera was used to emulate the look of Alfred Infrared Film that was very popular with art school kids in the 90s.
Infrared “film” picks up the light that other films can only dream about.
