Hot Dan The Mustard Man
The Mysterious Hot Dan The Mustard Man
This is probably the most obscure advertising mascot in the history of advertising. He is obviously the spokesperson for French’s Mustard. He is potato shaped and he wears a big bow tie.
Hot Dan the Mustard Man was used pretty extensively in print advertising common to the late 1940s through the 1950s. He probably did not see any T.V. time.
Hot Dan the Mustard Man may be seen at the best places but the internet is not one of them. There is no history, origin or fate as far as this mysterious person with the huge bow tie is concerned.
Hot Dan the Mustard Man even had his own cartoons in which he sold French’s mustard and brought peace to American homes.
French’s is an American manufacturer of prepared mustard condiment. Created by Robert Timothy French, French’s “Cream Salad Brand” mustard debuted to the world at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.
By 1921, French’s Mustard had adopted its trademark pennant and begun advertising to the general public. There is no mention anywhere of Hot Dan the Mustard Man and his representation of French’s Mustard. He is not mentioned in the corporate history.
