Meet Rick & Vyvyan

The Young Ones is a British sitcom, broadcast in the United Kingdom from 1982 to 1984. Broadcast on BBC2, the show featured anarchic, offbeat humor which helped bring alternative comedy to television in the 1980s and made household names of its writers and performers.

The Young Ones

Meet Rick

Rick is a character played by Rik Mayall on the British sitcom The Young Ones. Rick is a self-proclaimed anarchist who is studying sociology or domestic sciences. Rick is a really bad poet (who doesn’t know it). He likes to call himself The People’s Poet. The truth is people can hardly stand him. Please, read on.

“The People’s Poet”

Rick is, in fact, a very hypocritical, attention-seeking, tantrum-throwing worm. Rick is vegetarian, agnostic, and wishes all men to love each other like brothers, (except for Neil, whom he hates). Nonetheless, nearly everything Rick does is hypocritical and self-serving.

Meet Vyvyan

Vivian is a character played by Adrian Edmondson on the British sitcom The Young Ones. He is a rather psychopathic punk medical student. Vyvyan has spiked, orange-dyed hair and four metal stars seemingly embedded into his forehead. He is extremely violent in his behavior.

“The classic example of an only child!

On occasion, Vyvyan displays feats of superhuman strength and pain tolerance, such as surviving a pickaxe through his head and moving entire walls with his bare hands. Regardless of his violent and mostly simple-minded nature, Vyvyan seems to be the smartest of the group and he has on a couple of occasions demonstrated this talent as a medical student. Yes, a medical student!
