Rhythm & Repetition

Rhythm, in art and design, is the relationship that often exists between repetitive visual elements that when combined, create a visual harmony.

Rhythmic designs can also suggest action, direction or movement. Rhythm is achieved by the repetition of various visual elements such as colors, shapes, lines, patterns etc.

The repetition of visual elements in art and design may be expressed as flowing, random, regular, alternating, or progressive.

Rhythm creates a tempo in artworks and designs that guides the eye of the viewer and gives a sense of unity.
